Irish Volunteer Provisional Committee.

//Irish Volunteer Provisional Committee.

I am trying to get in touch with relatives/descendants of thirteen members of the original Irish Volunteer Provisional Committee. I am looking for relatives of Sean Fitzgibbon, John Gore, Michael J Judge, James Lenehan, Michael Lonergan, Peadar Macken, Seamus O’Connor, Colm O’Loughlin, Peter O’Reilly, Robert Page, George Walsh, Peadar White and Padraig O’Riain.

On the evening of 11th November, 1913 a small group of nationalists gathered in an upstairs room in Wynn’s Hotel on Lower Abbey Street to discuss forming a Irish National Volunteer force. Five meetings were held between that night and the 25th November when the inaugural enrolment meeting was held at the Rotunda Rink. As a result of those five meetings a Provisional Committee was formed, with thirty (30) members. They came from different nationalist backgrounds and affiliations, I.R.B., Irish Parliamentary Party, United Irish League, Ancient Order of Hibernians, Sinn Fein and the Gaelic League. There were also several members with no known connections with any political or cultural organisations.

Please contact me with any information or leads on where I might trace relatives/descendants of these fifteen men. You can send me a private message on here. I can also provide my email address if you would prefer. e mail to info@irishvolunteers.org

Many thanks. Eamon Murphy

    I am Robert Page’s grandson. My sister has completed an MA thesis of the period and is now researching our grandfather’s rather complex role in the period from 1913 onwards.
    Unfortunately some of his documents were lost and she is eager to dig deeper. So I am happy to hear of any help.
    I have only just realised that I have met Walter Macken’s son. What a small world!

    I believe I am a descendant of paeder macken. My family have explained that my grandad was named after him Peter macken. I’ve been trying to trace family history and author Walter macken was my dad’s cousin if this helps.
