It was standing room only at the Irish Volunteers Commemorative Organisation exhibition/lectures display in Saint Josephs Centre, DCVEC school in Finglas today. The title of the event was ‘Strumpet City, A Decade Of Change’. Introduction was by Mr Kevin Smullen, AEO/CDVEC, and Arts Teacher Claire Bhean. There was a host of speakers at the event talking and sharing their knowledge on behalf of our Organisation and all may I add on a voluntary basis which was very much appreciated, they were: Mr Terry Fagan of the North Inner City Folklore Society. Mr Las Fallon on The Dublin Fire Brigade and the Irish Revolution. Mr Dave Levnes on The DMP, The RIC, The Black n Tans and Auxies and their roll in Dublin, and myself on The Life and Times of Michael Collins 1890-1922. We would like to thank also, all the staff for their kind hospitality, who provided tea, coffee, sandwiches and cakes throughout the event, and who were very helpful in assisting us in setting the event up. We would also like to thank all the Mature Students who made the effort to come along and members of the public. Thank you too to member Rod Dennison for coming in to lend a hand. It was great to see Mrs Carmel Fitzgerald, daughter of Squad Man Charlie Byrne in the audience. All in all, a fantastic day. (more photos to follow) ·
