Padraig that was a truly magnificent oratory that you delivered at the commemoration. I only wish I’d been there in person to witness it. However, at the time you were holding the event I was working on a train which happened to pass along a bridge over the scene on Hyde Road, Manchester where on the 18th September 1867, Thomas Kelly and Timothy Deasy were being taken to the gaol located at Belle Vue, Manchester. It was the attempt to free the two men which resulted in the appalling case of the three Manchester Martyrs : William Philip Allen, Michael Larkin, and Michael O’Brien. I understand there is a monument in Ennis, Co Clare to these men. Another instance of brutish ” justice “.
