School of History, in conjunction with Cork City Archive,is hosting:
The event will be entitled the ‘Revolutionary roadshow’, that is, it will be an occasion whereby an invitation is extended to anyone in the west Cork area who has any original material dating back to the period 1912-23 – letters, documents, photographs, diaries, newspapers etc. etc. – to bring them in, and let us (ie qualified staff from the School of History and Cork City Archive) have a look at them, comment on them, assess their historical significance, and, if possible, allow us to take scans and/or photographs of same. It will be a sort of ‘Antiques Roadshow’ for the 1912-23 period, if you like, but we will be assessing the historical rather than financial value of the various documents/artefacts brought in by the public.
What we also hope to do is to use the occasion as means of heightening and widening interest in the period in the locality. As things stand the event is scheduled to take place on Saturday 1 December, in the Hall of the Clonakilty GAA complex, from 11am-3pm.
The Irish Volunteers Commemorative Organisation will have a small info stand here, any members in the area please call in. Look forward to seeing you all.
