    Hi.
My name is John B Ryan and my uncle was Michael Ryan who lived at Tullow street Carlow up until his death.
He was married to Beatrice (Bea) Brophy and they had no children. Mick was my father’s younger and only brother ( Peter otherwise known as Percy Ryan) . The family were originally from Tullaherin in County Kilkenny. Percy had eight children of which I am the youngest (71) My mother was Elizabeth Morrissey who came from Waterfor. I think she had a brother in the Old IRA and he is burried in Ferrybank in waterford. Any information that could be given by my late uncle Mick would be greatly appreciated.

Mick Ryan lived in 63 Tullow Street, Carlow next to my mother’s shop. He was married to Breda/Bridgit Brophy from Ardattin, Co. Carlow. He was a Social Welfare agent. He died about 38 years ago and is buried in the republician plot in St Mary’s Cementery Carlow. I understand that he went on hunger strike as a young man

See Mrs Ryan’s statement at http://www.bureauofmilitaryhistory.ie/reels/bmh/BMH.WS1573.pdf‎
